Co-sponsorships

Co-sponsorship is a collaborative process in which the Stone Center provides strategic partnership, financial support, and/or in-kind resources for programs organized by other units.

We prioritize events that:

• Advance scholarship, creativity, and public engagement related to the Black experience
• Educate in thoughtful and intentional ways
• Contribute meaningfully to campus and community dialogue
• Demonstrate clear alignment with the Stone Center’s mission and programming priorities

Approved co-sponsorships may include:

• Strategic partnership, including co-branding and collaborative planning
• Financial contributions toward event expenses (e.g., honoraria, travel, production costs)
• In-kind support, such as space coordination, communications amplification, or program consultation

All requests are considered based on alignment, budget clarity, and available resources.

To be considered, proposals must:

• Be hosted by a UNC–Chapel Hill department, unit, or recognized partner
• Take place on or near campus (or demonstrate clear relevance to the UNC community)
• Include a clearly defined audience and purpose
• Demonstrate collaboration (preference for multi-unit partnerships)

Please note:

• Co-sponsorship is competitive and limited
• Submission does not guarantee funding
• Events must comply with all applicable university policies regarding programming, branding, and operations

You should submit your application virtually. Your application should detail:

• Event overview (title, date, location, description)
• Summary statement of purpose and alignment with the Stone Center mission
• Target audience and expected attendance
• The specific amount requested and how, if granted, it would be applied
• Itemized budget, including:
  • Projected expenses (e.g., speaker fees, travel, catering, AV)
  • Confirmed and pending funding sources
• Primary contact and financial administrator for the hosting unit

Clear, detailed budgets that articulate impact and specify how resources from the Stone Center would be applied significantly strengthens proposals.

• Requests should be submitted at least 4–6 weeks in advance of the event date
• Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, subject to funding availability  
• Applicants will receive notification following internal review

Late or incomplete submissions may not be considered.

Co-sponsored events are expected to:

• Acknowledge the Stone Center as a co-sponsor in all promotional materials
• Coordinate branding (logos, visuals, etc.) and communications as requested
• Adhere to university guidelines for events, sponsorships, and use of institutional names/logos  

Within one week of the event, organizers must submit:

• Attendance numbers
• Summary of outcomes and impact
• Any relevant documentation (photos, recordings, media coverage)

Post-event reporting is required for future co-sponsorship consideration.
